Hi - please bear with me, I am a wrinklie and am a bit out of my depth.
I have a large classical CD collection that I wish to rip to a portable hard drive with a view to linking into my elderly Quad 66 preamp and ESL 63 speakers.
Your software looks good to do the job of cataloging, sorting, metadata sourcing etc and I would like to use it.
However I am at a loss as to how to link the resulting data to my hifi. Wireless network or via a pc are not an option for various reasons. Cable, bluetooth or infared would suit with cable preferred and I do not want to lose sound quality.
I obviously would like to make full use of your search and sort facility in order to play exactly the movements I want at any one time. There is no need for a remote facility, random or play lists.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks
Mat.w.

Hello & welcome, Mat.
I'm envious of your kit - I'd love some old quad gear myself. I may try to get some decent serviced units when I have the space!
Muso runs on a PC, so I'm not sure where it would fit in if a PC is not viable as part of the solution. How do you envisage actually browsing and playing the music once it's all on a hard drive - what's your ideal?
One of my users went through the pain of laying out how he solved the issue of classical music metadata:

He uses squeezebox devices though, and sadly these have been discontinued. However this article does help make sense of the issues in tagging for classical music.

The Logitech Squeezebox range has been discontinued but that doesn't stop them from working! They are still available second hand (and maybe even new). I have just bought a second Squeezebox Touch for £170. Google reviews of them and you will be amazed at their quality.

Absolutely Ed, I still use the squeezebox range (have two Classics, one Touch and a Boom, all but one bought after their discontinuation) and a 2TB VortexBox device to act as server - it's still the best system out there.

To Mat.w.
I know what a steep learning curve this can be. I've PM'd you my email address. I'm more than happy talking you through the setting up of a computer based system. And the best way to transfer your music to hard disk. Get it right the first time, and do it once. That's the secret.
